Who We Are.
We are people from the transgender community in Nova Scotia.  When we say "transgender community" we use that as a term that includes people who are transgender,  trans women, trans men, gender neutral, dual gender,  gender questioning. Although they may not refer to themselves as transgender, we are also including those who are non-binary, agender, two spirited,  and intersex.

On specific occasions we also welcome our partners, family, friends and supporters.

Most of all we are people. People just like you.

Who We Are Not.
We are not therapists, nor claim to provide therapy.

We are not judging, but we are not sexual fetishists.  That is to say, this is not a place to look to fullfill your sexual fantasies or look for dates.

What do we do?
We meet every Saturday for our Community Coffee and for regular peer support group meetings in the Halifax area. Coffee, tea and sweets abound! If you would like to learn more, please contact us.

We hold events. These events have included:
  • Games nights
  • Pub nights
  • Wine and cheese
  • Movie nights
  • Camping

We gather as a community at community-based events such as :
  • Pride events
  • Transgender Day of Rememberance events (Nov 20)
  • Transgender Day of Visibility events (March 31)

We have speakers come in to speak on various topics. These speakers include doctors, lawyers, pharmacists, community resource people and others.

And, simply we listen to each other. We talk and support one another. The group has started many good friendships that have made people feel far less alone.

About
F.L.Y.stands for "First Love Yourself" in recognition of the struggle that many trans people have with internalized transphobia. Just as the butterfly takes wing, this group uses peer support to help trans and gender questioning people become who they truly are.

Our group started in January 2016. In the span of a year, over 500 chairs were filled with people for our support group sessions.

We offer peer support to people in Nova Scotia who are transgender, non-binary, gender fluid, gender queer, bi-gender, two spirited, gender questioning and are 19 or over. As well as their partners and loved ones.
